Privacy Policy

Introduction

Today Madurai (todaymadurai.com) (“we”, “us”, or “our”) is run by Vembadi Labs. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit todaymadurai.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. Most of the site — articles, temples, weather, the EB calculator and the practice quiz — can be used without an account.

Information You Give Us

• Google sign-in (only if you play the daily quiz): your name, email address and profile photo, as shared by your Google account. We never see your Google password.
• Optional profile details: mobile number, gender, whether you live in Madurai, and your “Maduraikaran” type. You can leave these blank or change them from your profile page.
• Quiz activity: your answers, scores, time taken and any question you report as incorrect.
• Messages you send us by email.

Information Collected Automatically

• Usage data such as pages visited, browser and device type, approximate location from your IP address, and referring site — collected through Google Analytics.
• A small cookie per article so we can count unique readers (it stores only “1” and lasts one year).
• A sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in for up to 90 days. It is removed when you log out.

How We Use Your Information

• To run the daily quiz, calculate scores and show leaderboards
• To respond to your messages and correction requests
• To understand which pages are useful and improve the site
• To show advertising that helps keep the site free
• To keep the site secure and prevent abuse

What Is Shown Publicly

If you play the daily quiz, your first and last name, profile photo and score may appear on the public leaderboard and the homepage “recent players” section. Your email address and mobile number are never shown publicly. We do not sell your personal information.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects information such as pages viewed and time on site. You can learn more at How Google uses information from sites that use its services and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Advertising and Cookies (Google AdSense)

We use Google AdSense to show ads. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your previous visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Ads are not shown on the admin, sign-in, profile or daily-quiz pages.

Data Retention and Deletion

We keep your account and quiz history for as long as your account is active. You can ask us to delete your account and all associated data at any time by emailing connect@vembadi.com from the address you signed in with; we will do so within 30 days. Analytics data is kept according to Google Analytics' retention settings.

Data Security

Sign-in cookies are HTTP-only and sent only over HTTPS, and access to our database is restricted. However, no method of transmission over the Internet is 100% secure.

Your Choices

You can use most of the site without signing in, edit or clear your optional profile details at any time, block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and opt out of personalised ads using the links above.

Children's Information

We do not knowingly collect any Personal Identifiable Information from children under the age of 13. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, please contact us immediately and we will promptly remove such information from our records.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date.
