Madurai, November 13:
It’s good news for the people of Madurai! Two major flyover projects — the Koripalayam Flyover and the Apollo Junction Flyover — are now ready for inauguration. Tamil Nadu’s Minister for Public Works, Highways, and Minor Ports E.V. Velu has officially announced the opening dates for both structures.

Opening Dates Announced

During his inspection in Madurai, Minister Velu confirmed that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin will inaugurate the Koripalayam Flyover before the Pongal Festival, while the Apollo Junction Flyover will be opened to the public on December 7.

Apollo Junction Flyover – Nearing Completion

The four-lane Apollo Junction Flyover, spanning 2,100 meters, was constructed at a cost of ₹150 crore.
Final works such as painting and lighting installations are expected to be completed by December 1, after which the bridge will be formally inaugurated.
Additionally, the service roads and connecting junction areas around the flyover are being upgraded to improve overall traffic flow.

Koripalayam Flyover – Inauguration by Chief Minister

The Koripalayam Flyover project faced a delay of nearly six months due to a court case but has now entered its final phase.
Authorities have accelerated the work, and the project is expected to be completed before Pongal 2026.
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is scheduled to visit Madurai to inaugurate the flyover personally.

Continuous Monitoring and Inspections

Minister E.V. Velu has been closely monitoring these projects, marking his ninth official inspection so far.
District officials are conducting monthly progress reviews, while engineers inspect the site once every 15 days.
The minister noted that Chief Minister Stalin is giving special importance to the development of southern districts, allocating significant funds for large-scale infrastructure projects.

A Symbol of Madurai’s Urban Growth

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for the Koripalayam Flyover in January 2022, during the 75th anniversary celebrations of the Highways and Minor Ports Department.
Construction of both flyovers officially began in October 2023, and with their completion, Madurai is set to experience smoother traffic movement and improved urban connectivity.

Once inaugurated, these two major flyovers will ease congestion across key junctions and stand as a testament to Madurai’s rapid urban development under the Smart Infrastructure initiative.
