Families planning a wedding will soon be able to apply for the Tamil Nadu government's Annan Seer Scheme online. Women Welfare and Development Minister Jagadeeswari said on October 5 that a dedicated website for the scheme will be launched shortly, through which beneficiaries can apply and receive their benefits.
The scheme's name echoes a much-loved wedding custom: annan seer — the gifts a bride's elder brother brings for her marriage. Under the scheme, the government steps into that role.

Online-only applications
The government had already said that applications for the Annan Seer Scheme will be accepted only through the website, and work on the dedicated webpage is now under way. Detailed eligibility criteria, the documents required and the application window are expected to be published along with the website.

- Keep your family's basic documents in order, such as Aadhaar and ration card, so you are ready once the official list of required documents is released.

Beware of fake websites and middlemen. Popular schemes attract look-alike sites and agents who charge a fee to “register” you.
