Ration shops across Tamil Nadu, including those in Madurai, are holding a special fingerprint verification camp today, Saturday, September 26. It is meant for members of Priority Household (PHH) and Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) ration cards who have not yet completed Aadhaar-based biometric verification.
If everyone on your family card has already given their fingerprints at the ration shop, you don't need to do anything. If even one member hasn't, today is the easiest day to get it done.
Why the verification is being done
The drive is being carried out under the National Food Security Act, 2013, which entitles PHH and AAY households to subsidised food grains. Matching every member listed on an electronic family card with their Aadhaar fingerprint confirms that the beneficiary list is accurate — so that entitlements reach the people they are meant for.

With more than 96 in every 100 members already verified, the special camp is aimed squarely at the remaining few — often elderly members, people who were away when earlier drives happened, or those who simply didn't know it was needed.
Who needs to go
- Every member listed on a PHH or AAY family card who has not yet completed fingerprint verification.
- Each person must go themselves — the fingerprint has to be their own, so one family member cannot do it on behalf of another.
- If you are not sure whether a family member has been verified, ask the staff at your ration shop; they can check against the card.
What to do at the ration shop
- Go to the fair price shop where your family card is attached.
- Carry your smart family card and each member's Aadhaar card or Aadhaar number.
- The staff will scan the member's fingerprint on the shop's point-of-sale device and match it with Aadhaar.
- Make sure the staff confirm that verification was successful before you leave.
Fingerprint not scanning? This is common for elderly people and those who do manual work. Wash and dry your hands, try a different finger, and press gently but firmly. If it still fails, tell the shop staff — don't leave without asking them what to do next.
