📜 History
Arulmigu Pazhamudircholai Murugan Temple is the sixth and final abode in the sacred Arupadaiveedu group of Murugan shrines. Situated within the lush forested hills of Alagar Hills, also known as Pazhamudircholai meaning 'grove of ripe fruits', this temple is uniquely situated among the Arupadaiveedu as Lord Murugan appears in two separate shrines on the hillside. The main deity Murugan with his consorts Amudavalli and Sundaravalli is enshrined here in the forest sanctuary. The temple is among the oldest Murugan shrines in Tamil Nadu, mentioned in ancient Sangam literature as a sacred grove of Murugan. It has been glorified in the Thirupugal compositions of Saint Arunagirinathar, one of Tamil Nadu's greatest devotional poets. The entire hill area is considered sacred, and the natural environment of cascading waterfalls, sparkling streams, and dense tropical forest adds immeasurably to the spiritual ambience of this hillside pilgrimage. Devotees trek through the forested hillside path to reach the hilltop shrine. The surrounding Alagar Hills biodiversity zone is a protected forest rich in endemic flora and fauna. The Brahmotsavam festival celebrated here coincides with the famous Chithirai festival season in Madurai, making this an important part of the Madurai pilgrimage circuit. Annadhanam is provided to pilgrims during festival seasons.

Lord Murugan is believed to have meditated in the cool shade of this ripe fruit grove. The entire forest is considered the garden of Murugan.
